Abstract

The article focuses on the arbiters of change in values and culture relative to the advancement of science and technology in the twentieth century. Conservative groups have offered resistance to discovery and innovation wherever they have the power. They offer pedantry in the amplification of other people’s creative works. They urge dubious analogical arguments designed to make the classics contemporary. The methods of this examination will be humanistic, not scientific, since one claim is that scientific methods do not apply to their truths, and this is conceded. The result is an argument, open to charges of selectivity, making a worse cause look like what it is.
