Abstract

The article discusses the author's experience as a professor at Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. She gave an assignment to her students asking them to write exactly 163 words in response to the State of the Union address delivered by President George W. Bush. Some of her students dropped out due to difficulties of coping with multiple losses. She believes that she could help her students get on with life by sharing her grief.
