Abstract

The article reports that scientists have been looking at the creative works of neurologically impaired artists as a window into the inner workings of the brain. Example of artists who have suffered brain damage include Vincent van Gogh and Jackson Pollock. Van Gogh's addiction to absinthe may explain some of his bouts with hallucinations and his attempts to eat his paints. It was also speculated that the neurological ravages of alcohol may have influenced Pollock's abstract expressionism.
