Abstract

The article provides information on how Mount Kailas which is located in the western Tibet region of China has became a sacred mountain site of the Buddhist. Kailas is considered as the most sacred site in Asia. Kailas was associated with other mythical aspects like the beliefs regarding the tales about gods and demi-gods in the Kailas' slopes. However, the author argues that Kailas as the most sacred place was derived from the work of an Indian colonial officer Charles Sherring.
