Abstract

The article discusses the problem of high materials prices in the construction of the El Camino Hospital in Silicon Valley, California. According to Ken King, the hospital's vice president of facilities services, hospital's materials costs has increased to 70% during the planning. He added that the hospital planners worked with the subcontractor and bought the steel early, but they have not done the same with their plumbing contractor.
