Abstract

As the editor of Comparative Studies in Society and History the author sums up the experience gained from using this periodical as a forum for debate between historians and social scientists. The interests of contributors have been very diverse, covering modernization, intellectuals, the functioning of States, power, imperialism, religion, immigrants, etc. Studies have given rise to theoretical and conceptual discussions even though they may be based on only a few cases. Over the years, the enterprise has proved fruitful in many ways, not least by avoiding the mistake of emphasizing disciplinary differences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
