Abstract

The article focuses on the book "Children and families at Risk: New Issues in Integrating Services," by Peter Evans. Nineteen papers, presented at a conference held in Toronto in 1996, examine research completed by the Centre for Educational Research and Innovation of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) into the integration of services to meet the needs of children and youth at risk and their families. Papers discuss two ways of integration; the transition to preschool in Great Britain and Finland; after-school child care; trends in youth employment and school-work transitions in Canada; and Missouri's caring communities. Papers also discuss about the redesign of services for children and families; parental involvement in preschool education in France; the education and service integration roles of professional social workers; implementing system change for effective client services; and a shift from programmatic to integrated services in New Brunswick, Canada. Evans is with the OECD secretariat.
