Abstract

The article presents historical information regarding publishing in China. Printing during the twelfth century was considered to be a rich man's interest. This was because of huge costs involved with printing and publishing. However, rich people engaged in the activity due to self-interest, free labor, and an inclination towards the culture. Writers never asked for a pay since getting printed itself was invaluable. Thus, printing was considered more of a social service than a business venture.
