Abstract

The article profiles philosopher Hannah Arendt, who died in 1975 but is receiving lots of attention in 2006, the hundredth anniversary of her birth. Arendt is worshiped as a philosophical hero both because her writing was so influential and radiant and because there are very few notable American philosophers. The author discusses the strengths and weaknesses of her work, which is characterized by opaque thinking, and her opinions concerning the banality of evil and the Nazi party in Germany.
