From the editorial board of fluid dynamics.

The authors reflect on issues relating to scientific journal publishing in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). The author rules and review policies of the Fluid Dynamics journal published by the USSR Academy of Sciences are discussed. An overview of the topics considered for publishing including gas dynamics, aerodynamics and biomechanics is presented. The authors call upon the Russian scientists to popularize Russian research in the world of science.
