Abstract

The article reports on the covert detention centers operated by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in different parts of the world. CIA was anxious to take captured terrorists off to secret locations where its operatives could interrogate them out of the reach of the U.S. legal system and human-rights organizations. The agency continues to run similar facilities in Afghanistan and Eastern Europe. In Afghanistan, the prison was located in an old brick factory near Kabul's airport.
