The article recognizes the role of motor engines in the development of best-designed cars and trucks. The 1909 Model T of Henry Ford would have gone nowhere if its 20-hp 2.9L 4-cylinder was not easy to repair and engineered to be manufactured at low cost. The Cadillac division of General Motors may not have lasted if it were not for its V-8 engine.
