Abstract
- The article discusses the different approaches towards sustainability and the need for harmonizing them. The first approach is industrial ecology with a mass orientation, while the second is technology-oriented life cycle. The third approach concerns the mainstream economists who consider account market relations. The last approach involves ecological economists who refrain from general approaches and instead focus on multi-criteria analysis at a case level. Given these varying approaches, there is a need to clarify the relations among them to advance the science of sustainability.
