Abstract

The article describes the different portrayals of 16th century English monarch Henry VIII in Hollywood films. It begins with Charles Laughton's role as Henry in the 1933 film "The Private Life of Henry VIII" through actor Eric Bana's depiction in the 2007 film "The Other Boleyn Girl." Laughton's portrayal won him the Academy Award for Best Actor, but historians say Robert Shaw in "A Man For All Seasons" was the most accurate depiction.
