The author highlights the emphasis given on psychoanalysis and psychotherapy at the annual meeting of the American Psychoanalytic Association which was held fifty years ago in the U.S. It mentions that the alterations in the practice of psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy were driven by the significant societal change and numerous developments in theory and technique. Psychiatrist Frieda Fromm-Reichmann claimed that the interpersonal dimensions of therapeutic technique were being undervalued.
