Abstract
- The following is an account of a new venture in labour-management collaboration at the level of the enterprise. The author, who has been in direct charge of the movement since its inception, describes the circumstances in which Emergency Production Committees (E.P.C.s) were first set up in India at the end of 1962, the work of promotion and assistance that has been done to ensure that the movement will flourish, and the results achieved. These latter include improvements in many aspects of industrial performance, such as production, productivity, cost-reduction, maintenance, etc., but perhaps more significant for the continued vigour of the movement is the beneficial effect it appears to have had on labour-management relations in Indian undertakings.
