Abstract

The expectations of individuals entering dual-career relationships have evolved over the past two decades. Although beliefs and values have become more egalitarian, actual practices continue to demonstrate asymmetry in regard to sharing career and family responsibilities. The strain of this discrepancy, as well as other stresses of this lifestyle, will be discussed. This paper focuses on coverage of relevant treatment areas described in the literature, followed by a case example and analysis. An integrated multilevel approach is recommended because of the structural complexities and intricate psychological and interpersonal adaptations inherent in dual-career relationships.
