Abstract
- The article focuses on the efforts of Alexei Ratmansky, artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet Company in Moscow, Russia, to revitalize the centuries-old institution. The history of the company and its role in Russian culture is presented. Its artistic and financial decline in the 1990s is noted. Ratmansky's work to renovate both the Bolshoi's theater and its repertoire is presented. An increase in its popularity is seen.
