Abstract

The article presents a study on the abnormalities in the electroencephalography (EEG) in chronic schizophrenia. K. Leonard's classification was used in examining 210 chronic schizophrenic patients with mean age of 48.6 years and mean illness length of 22.3 years. Results showed significantly more abnormal EEGs in the schizophrenic groups when compared with nonschizophrenic groups indicating a brain disorder possibly generalized or in the temporal regions. It was also found that schizophrenics has lesser response to hyperventilation and phonic stimulation than nonschizophrenics.
