Abstract

The article focuses on presentation and structure of present psychiatric classifications in reference to ICD-9 and -10. The main features of the 10th revision of the International Classification of Diseases or ICD-10 are examined on their structure and presentation. The general principles and main changes from ICD-9 is highlighted such as the use of clinical descriptions and diagnostic guidelines. Tables on how ICD-10 is structured are also presented and discussed. It is suggested psychiatric services and general medical care will realize the importance of usefulness of collecting data for future classification purposes.
