The article presents a topic published in the 1986 issue of "American Journal of Orthopsychiatry." The article "A Multivariate Risk Model for Childhood Behavior Problems," by A. R. Stiffman, discusses several models of family stress. The author suggests that the effects of the stress will be magnified to the extent that the environmental stressors are not able to be matched or exceeded with resources of the family members. His study provides insights on some of the ways to prevent mental illness for children with high prevalence of mental disease. It also offers some direct support for theories of family and individual stress.
