Abstract
- The article features deaf photographer Andy Blackburn and blind managing editor Pete Mekeel of the "Lancaster New Era" newspaper in Pennsylvania. Their coverage of the Amish schoolhouse shooting in Lancaster on October 2, 2006 earned the newspaper three journalism awards. Both Blackburn and Mekeel said they can do their jobs as well as any other editor or photographer, with news instincts and quick responses more important than hearing and 20/20 vision.
