The article presents information about a physicians' conference held in 1981 in Trier, West Germany. Note is taken of a discussion at the conference regarding illegible handwriting in physicians' prescriptions. A description is given of a request made by Karsten Vilmar, president of the West German chamber of physicians, that his colleagues make greater efforts to write clearly.
