The article describes the West German practice of sending entire factories on vacation at the same time. A discussion is given of the advantages and disadvantages of this system, and the example is given of an air transportation factory with employee vacation procedures that allow for more scheduling freedom on the part of the employees. Of the six vacation weeks available to factory employees in West Germany, factory management may assign three as compulsory vacation, the article notes.
