Abstract
- The article discusses the military space strategy of China. Several reasons are cited for the demonstration of China's anti-satellite (ASAT) capabilities on January 11, 2007. The technological advances revealed by Beijing through this test were not immediately reported in either the Chinese or the international media but the intelligence community in the U.S. was fully aware of what had happened and its significance. According to the author, Beijing's investments in counterspace technology are driven by uncompromisable strategic concerns. The U.S. space systems and Chinese attack options for various missions are also presented.
