Abstract

The article presents an analysis on the sublimity rendered in the grimace of reality in art images. The sublime beauty which is the image elevated to the level of a thing in mind, evokes fascination within a particular culture. The anamorphotic grimace separates the beauty from disgust because the authenticity of desire is contingent on a specific culture. The emergence of monster figure such as "Frankenstein," The Elephant Man," The Phantom of the Opera," and "Living Dead," has a social impact in the deterritorialization, radical ambiguity in the transformation of certain era such as capitalism into imperialism and emergence of postindustrial society.
