Abstract

Chapter 10 of the book "Art Education in a Postmodern World," is presented. It analyses the relationship of semiotics and art in art education. It discusses semiotics from both, traditional and postmodernism approaches to art education and concludes that though for different reasons, both consider semiotics as obsolete and unnecessary. It presents an overview of the concept of semiotics and proposes that semiotics should be used by art teachers as an integral part of art education.
