Abstract
- This article describes LIMPACS, a research initiative designed by the International Geosphere-Biosphere Program. The LIMPACS programme is designed to assess how and why lakes have changed, are changing and might change in the future as a result of human activity. The article outlines the program's major set of foci, such as: climate forcing, climate variability, land/ocean dynamics, and human-environment interactions. Other papers in this volume are based on a meeting of scientists to develop research priorities.
