Abstract

This article discusses the tissue distribution and depuration of microcystin toxins in bighead carp in China. The authors analyzed microcystins in the muscle, kidney, intestine, gallbladder, and spleen samples using a liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer. After microcystin intraperitoneal injections, the authors found the toxins primarily in the liver, gallbladder, and intestines of the fish. The elimination of microcystin-LR occurred at the intestine while microcystin-RR degraded in the liver after entering the blood system.
