Abstract

The article cites a study that investigated the fecal calprotectin levels of preterm infants beginning from birth to hospital discharge. The researchers conducted their nine-month study at the neonatal department of Saint Vincent de Paul Hospital in Paris, France where fecal samples from 34 newborn infants were collected. The subjects of the study included 22 boys and 12 girls with a median gestational age of 30 weeks and results of the study indicated that no correlation was established between fecal calprotectin level and either gestational age, birth weight, sex, mode feeding, or postnatal age.
