Abstract

The article notes that a September 7, 2007 report from the U.S. Labor Department that the number of jobs created in the U.S. in August was far below expectations--4000 jobs were lost--suggests the economy could be weakening. This creates a difficult choice for the Federal Reserve. If it doesn't cut interest rates, the economy could soften further. If it does cut rates, inflation could rise.
