ACC/AHA issue update to UA/NSTEMI guidelines.

Abstract

The article reports on the updated guidelines on Unstable Angina/Non-ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (UA/NSTEMI) issued by the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association (ACC/AHA). Included in the changes, that was published in 2002, are the drug therapy wherein clopidogrel was recommended as an antiplatelet therapy for at least a year after receiving a drug-eluting stent. The updated guidelines also entails the suggestion for the cessation of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) given for all UA/NSTEMI patients during hospitalization and the discontinuation of hormonal replacement therapy in postmenopausal women.
