Abstract

The article discusses cultural identity and political responsibility. Anthropology and sociology have always insisted on the social and cultural rather than the natural determinations of identity. Through culture, identity is constantly defined, constructed, invented, redefined, reconstructed, and reinvented. In addition, identity and culture are polysemic notions that evolve in the course of concrete historic experience. The two major assumptions on which contemporary cultural identity policies are based are presented.
