Abstract

The article discusses the role of communication in protecting against the spread of the disease HIV/AIDS. The authors reports on a study conducted on fourth-grade elementary students in a low-income area in Mexico who engaged in a communication-centered life skills program. Students completed a self-report questionnaire at the start of and concluding the program to evaluate. The authors found that gender had a significant impact on outcomes and that intervention programs focusing on communication can deter risky sexual behavior later in life.
