Abstract

The article presents the author's views concerning the political system of Brazil. The author gave an account of his visit to the country and recounted his observations. He mentioned that in Porto Alegre, cities are relatively prosperous with highly skilled populations. In Salvador, he saw a lavish tourist sector along the ocean and an enormous network of shanty towns called favelas. It is noted that one of the things that holds the country's radically contrasting scenes together is a system of mass media with a nationwide reach.
