Abstract
- The article focuses on the social conditions in Egypt. According to the author, the imprisonment and torture of the Islamists has personalized the struggle. He added that due to the brutal government campaign against Islamists in the south where revenge killing is an accepted custom, revenge assassinations are more likely to be the norm in Egypt. He emphasized that political violence will increase unless Egyptian government undertakes a serious reform program that focuses on the widening spectrum of political participation to include the Islamists, repealing the repressive 11-year-old emergency laws and working toward more equitable distribution of goods and services.
