Abstract

A biography of Joseph Marie Jacquard, inventor of the Jacquard Loom, is presented. He was born in July 7, 1752 in Lyon, France. He was illiterate up to the age of 13. He married the widow Claudine Boichon on July 26, 1778. He inherited his father's workshop and was recognized as a bourgeois citizen of Lyons. He has achieved worldwide renown for the development of the Jacquard loom which creates intricately patterned fabrics via a loop of perforated cards perched atop the loom frame.
