Abstract

We present an ab initio molecular dynamics study for the nonmetal-to-metal transition in warm dense hydrogen and helium. We calculate the equation of state data and the electrical conductivity up to high pressures. We compare our ab initio results with shock-wave data and other theoretical predictions. The nonmetal-to-metal transition and its consequences for astrophysics are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
