Abstract

The article reports on a study concerning recognition of sibling species of horseflies. researcher proposed that the salt marsh greenhead, Tabanus nigrovittatus, actually consists of sibling species of horse flies. He collected Tabanus larvae which appeared morphologically and ecologically distinct from T. nigrovittatus and designated them Tabanus species 3. It is reported that electrophoresis of proteins often helps to differentiate between closely related species for which good morphological characters are not apparent. Researchers informed how they made use of genetic basis as a parameter to differentiate between closely related species.
