Abstract

The article examines the implications of the establishment of the first Constitution on July 5, 1959 on the political and social landscape of Indonesia. It focuses on the cultural and social changes that transformed the Indonesian society and the eight-year development plan from 1961 to 1969. Moreover, it examines the transition of Indonesia from a colony of the Netherlands to an independent state and the challenges it faced in establishing new democratic political institutions.
