Implantation of a cardioverter defibrillator on the side of a hemodialysis fistula to prevent loss of the alternative arterio-venous access.

The article presents a case study on a 62-year old male patient, who has been on hemodialysis through a left sided atrio-ventricular (AV) radial fistula for 8 years, with an indication for the implantable cardioverter defribillator (ICD) implantation. The authors recommend the implantation of a rhythm device on the side of the AV fistula in young patients with old AV fistula because of expected requiements for a new AV access.
