Abstract

The article presents information related to the developments in the field of biomedical engineering, which bridges the gap between the physical sciences and the life sciences. As reported, this merging of the physical and life sciences began during World War II, and the present multidisciplinary approach to problems in medical treatment, research, and training started evolving. Today, the biologist and physician join with physicists, mathematicians, and engineers in order to develop techniques, equipment, and materials which can be applied to the patient or to the experimental animal.
