Abstract

The article reports on Tarn Moor as a highland area of preserved wetlands, common moorland in central Westmorland and it overlies limestone rock and comprises many springs. It discusses that the upper regions of the moor are prevailed by Calluna vulgaris, and the holes hold cryptic humate and mires of numerous kinds. Along the sides of the valleys there is a broke belt of 'wet flush' vegetation overlaying a shallow peat or mineral soil. Many of the springs emerge in this zone. An overview on Tarn Moor is presented.
