Abstract

The article presents a study that examines the impact of temperature and photoperiod on the growth of the shoot apex in a number of species and strains of genus Lolium, and seeks to relate this behavior to the geographical and ecological origins of species and strains. It highlights the growth of the shoot apex, the materials and methods used for the examination of the development, and the rates of leaf and tiller appearance. A discussion on the growth of leaf and bud of the shoot apex and the breeding systems of Lolium is provided. It shows that the critical photoperiod of many plants is greater than 11 hours.
