Abstract

The article focuses on the efforts of railroad engineers in Great Britain in working on consuming less energy as part of the initiatives to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. In the government's "Sustainable Railways" White Paper published in July 2007, the benefits of electric railways are discussed. Among the British fleets exploiting Network Rail's investment in making the alternating current (AC) electrified network capable of accepting regenerated power is London Midland's Class 350 Siemens Desiros.
