Abstract

The article presents a study seeking to determine the efficacy and safety of hypericum perforatum, also known as St. John's wort, as a treatment for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children. The design and setting of the randomized, double-blind study, which involved interviews with a volunteer sample of 54 ADHD children, is described. The outcomes measured included performance of the herbal supplement according to an ADHD rating scale and adverse events. Researchers concluded that hypericum perforatum did not significantly improve ADHD in children over the course of the 8-week trial period.
