Abstract

This article discusses the connection between imperial administration and hunting in the British military. The connection between bravery in hunting and the advancement of the careers of British military officers including Sir James Outram and Major-General A. E. Waldrop is described. Conflicts between the Indian people and colonial leadership regarding the hunting of game are noted. The article presents the colonial discourse on hunting skill and martial prowess that appeared in magazines including "Baily's," "The Badminton Library," and "The Field." These articles are presented in relation to protests from Indian farmers and landowners regarding hunting damages
