A letter from Robert Lovelace to his companion and close friend John Belford is presented. He discloses to his friend about the quarrel that he had with the woman he pursues, Clarissa Harlowe. Moreover, he plans to write a play entitled "The Quarrelsome Lovers" to depict his relationship with Harlowe. He also reveals his attempts to get a letter that Harlowe dropped as she sat.
