Abstract

The article discusses a population census taken in 2007 on the Vietnam-China international border regarding the world's rarest ape, the cao vit gibbon Nomascus nasutus. The Vietnamese census recorded 94-96 individuals in 17 groups and the Chinese census with 32 individuals in six groups. The results of the census suggest the success of conservation efforts thus far.
