Abstract
- The article focuses on the use of chlorine and chlorine-based chemicals to disinfect water and its impact on the membrane of water treatment systems. More than 98% of water treatment facilities in the U.S. use chlorine or chlorine-based chemicals to disinfect water. One of the problems facing water treatment systems using reverse osmosis (RO), such as point-of-use coolers, is the chlorine degradation of the RO membrane performance. Research is on to develop chlorine-resistant RO membranes.
